News Desk KARACHI: In an effort to combat child malnutrition and food insecurity, the Sindh government has partnered with the World Food Programme (WFP) to implement a free school lunch program, according to a story published by Express News on Wednesday. in partnership with the World Food Programme (WFP) to address child food insecurity and malnutrition, Express News said Wednesday.
Sindh Education Minister Syed Sardar Ali Shah and WFP Country Director Koko Oshima spoke at a high-level conference about the increasing nutritional difficulties that pupils in government schools confront. Addressing the dietary issues that pupils in government schools experience was the topic of debate. Shah emphasized that many parents find it challenging to feed their kids wholesome meals due to expanding population trends and financial challenges, which has an impact on their ability to learn.
In order to ensure that children receive proper nutrition to support their education, the initiative will concentrate on areas where poverty and food insecurity are most prevalent, Shah added. He went on to say that free lunches will encourage families to put education above child labor by increasing school attendance and lowering dropout rates.
WFP Country Director Koko Oshima stressed the value of a healthy diet in improving memory and cognitive development, all of which are essential for learning. She went on to say that healthy eating boosts immunity, which makes kids healthier and more disease-resistant.
The initial stage of the initiative will be introduced by the Sindh government in the Malir district of Karachi, where a baseline survey will be carried out to evaluate the schools and the surrounding region. As part of the scheme, 11,000 kids will first get "hot meal lunch boxes." The initiative is anticipated to spread to further cities based on the results and progress of the first year, with a strong monitoring mechanism in place to guarantee its execution.
Better learning results and a healthier future for Sindhi students are the goals of this historic project, which is a step in the right direction towards tackling both nutritional and educational issues.
